THE RACE

Searching for trails in Northern Thailand, I tried to connect Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai through the mountains. After several months of investigation in contact with hill tribes, I was able to trace a route between the two largest cities of the North via old tribal trails and dirt roads.

The track will reach a total distance of 330k with an ascent of 16.000m. It will cross tropical and pine forests, jungles, rice paddies and mountains. We will stop and eat at nights in hill tribe villages. Those people coming originally from Burma, China and Laos have lived in the mountains for decades and will welcome us in their houses for eating and sleeping.

We will try to cover the distance in a one-week race from 9th to 15th December. The objective is to run with a minimum stuff in the same conditions of equipment as for an ultra trail. The pleasure must stay in running, the necessary equipment should remain light. We will carry with us some water and food for the day needs as few changing clothes and safety equipment. At nights we will be helped and resupplied by villagers where we will stay for sleeping.

I set up a mixed-team of 6 runners from Asia and Europe. I wanted this event to be an opportunity to share trail running between athletes of both continents. With a series of tough stages from 30k to 75k a day during one week, it was also necessary to call on experienced runners whose preparation and training will be adapted to the demands of such a race.
