The foothills of Himalaya

Fertile region of mountains, valleys and rivers, the North and its pronvinces are a paradise for nature lovers. It is here that begins to rise the chain of the Himalayas and the place includes the highest peaks in the country: Doi Inthanon (2565m) , Doi Phahompok (2285m) , Doi Chiang Dao (2225m) , Doi Mae Ya (2005m) , Doi Ang khang (1928m). Northern vegetation is dense and varied, in few kilometers can succeed to each other tropical forests, pine forests, rice paddies and dry forests.

At the crossroad of South-East Asia the northern mountains are inhabited by ethnic tribes from Tibet, Burma, China and Laos. Akha, Lahu, Lisu, Hmong and Karen tribes have their own culture and language. They continue to live from farming and hunting, retired to their villages. Nevertheless the development of dirt roads and the help from the Royal family are giving them a better life tha few years ago… sometimes at the expense of a decline in their traditions and customs.
